Came across this Sticky Screen today. It's just a simple online version of the yellow Post-It Note. I am going to make it the homepage for my browser so that it remind me of getting back to work every time I try to surf the Internet. :D

Add Restriction to Launch Programs in XP or Vista

Do you have any application on your Windows XP or Vista that you don't want others to run? (A virus maybe? mltan100.blogspot.com) If yes, here's an application that you will want to try -- Empathy.
"Empathy is a special utility allowing you to password-protect any executable file. Empathy can modify an EXE file so that it will require a password to run. Only a person knowing the password will be allowed to run the protected program.

Protected files stay protected if you copy them to another location or even to another computer, no matter which operating system do they use.

Empathy allows you to protect potentially dangerous programs against running by an unauthorized person. You can use it to protect executable files in public places like schools, internet coffees or even homes."
Empathy is a postcardware, which requires you to send the author of the program a postcard before he sends you the unlock code. Until you get the unlock code, the program will only allow you to use a single character password.

Blocking Ads with Adblock Plus FireFox Plugin

One of the main reason that I love Firefox is because of all the plugins that are available out there for free. Here's another Firefox plugin that I find really useful -- the Adblock Plus.
"Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose “Adblock” from the context menu — the banner won’t be downloaded again."

Unless you like reading ads, or I would recommend you to install this plugin right away and get rid of all the annoying ads!

Googlemail and Gmail

Most Gmail user probably don't know about this: when you register an account on Gmail, you actually get 2 email addresses: one with gmail.com domain, and another with googlemail.com. So if your Gmail address is Jonny@gmail.com, anyone sending an email to Johnny@googlemail.com will go to your inbox as well.

To take advantage on this, you can give one of the email address (Johnny@googlemail.com for example) to only family members or close friends of yours, and publish another address (Johnny@gmail.com) to the public. Then you can set filter to direct all emails that sent to googlemail.com into a separate folder so that you will never miss them!

Gmail Security Flaw?

MakeUseOf.com, one of my favorite blog, was recently hacked. Their domain name was stolen by a hacker whom they believe to have found a security flaw in Gmail, and gain access to their domain from there. This is what Aibek, the guy behind MakeUseOf.com, wrote:
"The hacker did access my Gmail account and set up some filters there that eventually helped him to get access to our GoDaddy account. What I didn’t know is how he managed to do that. Was it a security hole in Gmail? Or was it a keylogger on my PC? I wasn’t sure about it. After the incident I scanned my system with a number of malware removals and didn’t find anything. I also went through every running process as well. All semed to be clean.

So, I am inclined to believe the problem was with Gmail."

Check out the full post from Aibek here: BREAKING: New Gmail Security Flaw. More Domains Get Stolen!

Gmail is my favorite email service. Although I don't own a popular domain like Aibek do, I certainly hope all my private emails are secure with Gmail. Hopefully the Gmail team from Google will look into this and fix the security flaw as soon as possible!

Viewing 2 Web Page In One Browser Tab

Sometimes when surfing the Internet, you might want to see two web page at once, i.e referring to an article while writing an email, or online resume. Instead of flipping back and forth between two browser tabs, you can display 2 both on the same tab, side by side.

For FireFox, there's plugin called Split Browser which can help you to get this done easily. For Google Chrome, this can be done as well even without plugin. Use this Javascript bookmarklet called Google Chrome Dual View. Just drag the bookmarklet to your bookmark toolbar and when you hit the button Google Chrome will ask you to input two web addresses. It will then open them up side by side in a single browser tab.
